Cardinal Pole is a Roman Catholic secondary school for boys and girls, based over two sites in Homerton, East London. There are currently over 1000 students. The school aims to promote the unique development of each pupil intellectually, socially and spiritually.
With greater competition from an increase of Academies in the Borough Cardinal Pole wanted to embark on a re-branding exercise to bring the identity into the 21st century, as part of an overarching marketing strategy.
The school had different brands used across various materials which were applied inconsistently and without inspiration. Rather than just take the brief and begin, we wanted to engage some of the pupils in the whole approach, empowering them to make key, creative decisions in the rebranding process.
The pupils became deeply involved. Through workshops, discussions, inspiration trips, ideas creation and development SPY acted as design collaborators and facilitators to bring the brand to life.
Having decided on the final choice through a democratic voting system, we implemented the brand across all aspects of the school’s collateral: from stationary to brochures and from banners to signage – and a
new uniform.
As a result of the rebrand Cardinal Pole was a finalist in the 2010 CIPR Excellence Awards for the Public Sector category.
